Pride of Sidmouth was launched on service to assist the Coastguard in the search for containers washed from the MSC Napoli. The search discovered 9 containers drifting along with a large amount of debris. The position of each container along with it’s identity number was passed to the Coastguard.

Seaton

Whilst on a training exercise 2 miles off Seaton Pride of Sidmouth came across 5 metal 45 gallon barrels drifting, the contents were not known. The position was logged and passed by radio to Portland Coastguard. The crew were asked to standby until a recovery vessel with a crane could get to the scene. The recovery vessel “Valour” arrived on scene and Pride of Sidmouth was stood down.

Pride of Sidmouth was launched on service to assist Devon & Cornwall police in searching for a missing person. ILB searched from Sidmouth to Big Picket Rock and back to Sidmouth. ILB was then tasked to search from Ladram Bay to Salcombe Hill. ILB was then stood down after nothing found.

Sidmouth Lifeboat crew were paged following the discovery of a small boat washed up on the rock groynes at the western end of the beach. 08:50 Sidmouth Lifeboat on scene. Sidmouth Lifeboat recovered the vessel to the beach. Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to conduct a close inshore search of the local area. Nothing untoward found.

Sidmouth Lifeboat crew were called to assist a group of children reported in difficulty on the Rock Islands at Sidmouth. ILB Rig proceeded along the sea front to the beach. The children were recovered to a safe position and first aid was administered to several children with cuts and grazes.

Sidmouth Lifeboat crew were called to assist a man reported to be on Chit Rocks.Police located the man on the rock groyne opposite the boathouse before the boat was launched. Lifeboat crew got the casualty off the rocks and onto a stretcher. He was then taken to the waiting ambulance and on to hospital.

Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Portland coastguard to investigate reports of an oil slick in the vicinity of Littlecombe shoot, to the East of Sidmouth. The lifeboat reported the position of the slick of light fuel oil from the wreck of MSC Napoli toward Branscombe. After discussion with the salvage team on the Napoli and the Coastguard no further action was deemed necessary.

Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked along with Beer and Sidmouth Coastguard to search for a missing person. A close inshore search was carried out between Ladram Bay and Weston Mouth. The Police Helicopter performed a search along the cliff tops. The missing person was found in Connaught Gardens.

Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to assist Beer coastguard team to search the area around beer head to the East of Sidmouth. A double Kayak had been found earlier and the lifeboat made a shoreline search of the area between Beer roads and Weston mouth. Nothing untoward was found, and the Kayak was taken ashore at Branscombe beach.

Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to look for an open inflatable dinghy off Sidmouth Beach. one person aboard reported to be in trouble due to the offshore breeze. Sidmouth Lifeboat made its way to the launch site at Clifton Beach, to the East of the esplanade, and as the crew prepared to launch the inflatable was towed to safety by a local Kayaker, who had seen the situation developing.

Following a 999 call to Portland Coastguard, Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to a reported fire aboard the Dutch support tug from the MSC Napoli. The Vessel was located at anchor approx 1 ½ nautical miles South of Seaton. The crew aboard had been having a barbeque in a large oil drum on the stern deck. The flames were seen in Seaton, and reported by concerned members of the public.
Nothing untoward was found and Pride of Sidmouth returned to Station

Following a distress call to Portland Coastguard from a local fishing vessel, Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to a rowing boat in difficulties off Ladram Bay with 2 persons on board. The boat was located approx ½ mile off Ladram Bay. The crew aboard had been attempting to row ashore against a strong northerly wind after their engine had failed. The crew were taken on board the lifeboat, and the boat towed to Ladram Bay. They were put ashore and passed to Beer Coastguard – who also attended the scene.

During Sunday morning training, Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to investigate a small dinghy, floating 50m off Jacobs Ladder. The dinghy was located and did not appear to have had any people onboard recently. Dinghy was then towed back to Port Royal, Sidmouth and recovered ashore.

Following a call from Portland Coastguard Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked to assist the police in a search for an elderly missing Person. A shoreline search was carried out from Beer Head, East of Sidmouth, to Otterton ledge in the West. 3 Coastguard teams, the police and Coastguard helicopter Victor Alpha were also involved. The missing Person was found safe and well about ½ a mile from the sea front.
