17/17 05/09/17 18:25 Assist Sidmouth Whilst preparing for routine training the Sidmouth Lifeboat crew saw a paddle boarder who had been pushed offshore by a deceptively strong wind. The crew prepared Sidmouth 2 for launch and maintained a visual onto the paddle boarder. The paddle boarder was able to use a break in the wind to get within the lee of the shore and with the help of a sea swimmer was able to recover to the beach where the lifeboat crew assisted them up the beach and the Sidmouth 2 Lifeboat was not required.
16/17 02/09/17 10:20 Assist Littlecombe Shute Whilst stationed in town for the start of the annual Sidmouth Lifeboat Flag Day the boat was tasked to a male casualty who had broken his leg half way down the cliff path at Littlecombe Shute. The lifeboat put crew ashore and used Entonox, Splints and a stretcher and worked alongside the Beer Coastguard team to get the casualty to shore down the very challenging coastal path and used the Lifeboat to transfer the casualty back to Sidmouth for transfer to hospital via Ambulance. Once again we wish the casualty well.

13/17 25/08/17 19:36 Search Sidmouth Sidmouth Lifeboat had just returned from providing safety cover for the RAF red arrows display when they were tasked to search for a potential missing swimmer directly off in front of the Sidmouth Lifeboat station around 150 metres from shore. A member of public had come into the Lifeboat station and called Solent Coastguard as he felt he had seen a swimmer go out but not return. The crew were paged and alongside Beer Coastguard teams completed a thorough search of the area. Nothing was found and the Lifeboat was stood down, no persons at this time have been reported missing.
12/17 19/08/17 18:14 Assist Budleigh Salterton Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Solent Coastguard to search for a boat with engine failure believed to be in the Budleigh Salterton area. Exmouth ILB was also tasked to assist with the search. Both lifeboats worked brilliantly together with Exmouth ILB finding the boat 2 miles East-South-East of Otterton Ledge, it was an 18ft Speed boat with 4 persons on board and required towing into a safe haven. Exmouth was chosen as the most appropriate destination and Sidmouth Lifeboat took them on a stern tow to Exmouth and once inside the estuary Exmouth ILB took on the tow to moor up the vessel whilst Sidmouth Lifeboat took the 4 persons, who were all well but glad to be home, to the slipway for recovery. An excellent example of the two stations working together seamlessly and a brilliant effort from both the independent and RNLI crews.
11/17 15/08/17 10:07 Assist Littlecombe Shute Lifeboat tasked to a casualty at Littlecombe Shute with a suspected broken leg. The Lifeboat was quickly on scene and our paramedic dropped ashore to assess a suspected broken tibia and fibula, along with Beer coastguard rescue team members. Due to the inaccessible location with shallow water and rocks, Sidmouth 2 was then also launched in case (with much shallower draft) assistance was required. In the event, the helm of the larger boat was unable to get it to the shore at the casualty location. The main Sidmouth Lifeboat was able to navigate to place the bow on the beach enabling a safe transfer of the casualty thanks to the Beer Coastguard teams. Casualty was splinted, given Entonox and put on a scoop before being recovered to the boat and then back to Sidmouth boathouse for transfer to the land ambulance crews. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.
