|12/17||19/08/17||18:14||Assist||Budleigh Salterton||Sidmouth Lifeboat was tasked by Solent Coastguard to search for a boat with engine failure believed to be in the Budleigh Salterton area. Exmouth ILB was also tasked to assist with the search. Both lifeboats worked brilliantly together with Exmouth ILB finding the boat 2 miles East-South-East of Otterton Ledge, it was an 18ft Speed boat with 4 persons on board and required towing into a safe haven. Exmouth was chosen as the most appropriate destination and Sidmouth Lifeboat took them on a stern tow to Exmouth and once inside the estuary Exmouth ILB took on the tow to moor up the vessel whilst Sidmouth Lifeboat took the 4 persons, who were all well but glad to be home, to the slipway for recovery. An excellent example of the two stations working together seamlessly and a brilliant effort from both the independent and RNLI crews.|
|11/17||15/08/17||10:07||Assist||Littlecombe Shute||Lifeboat tasked to a casualty at Littlecombe Shute with a suspected broken leg. The Lifeboat was quickly on scene and our paramedic dropped ashore to assess a suspected broken tibia and fibula, along with Beer coastguard rescue team members. Due to the inaccessible location with shallow water and rocks, Sidmouth 2 was then also launched in case (with much shallower draft) assistance was required. In the event, the helm of the larger boat was unable to get it to the shore at the casualty location. The main Sidmouth Lifeboat was able to navigate to place the bow on the beach enabling a safe transfer of the casualty thanks to the Beer Coastguard teams. Casualty was splinted, given Entonox and put on a scoop before being recovered to the boat and then back to Sidmouth boathouse for transfer to the land ambulance crews. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.|
